• Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. Nine times out of ten that’s a blown relay on the control board or a loose wire at the terminal block, not the keypad itself. We test the board with a jumper before we ever sell you a keypad.
• Remotes work sometimes, then quit for an hour. That’s usually heat expansion on a solder joint on the receiver module. We see it every summer in Prosper attics and on west-facing gate posts that bake all afternoon.
• Gate opens when a car drives over the exit loop but not when you punch the code. The loop detector is on its own circuit; the keypad input is separate. If one input works and another doesn’t, the board is reading fine and the problem is in the keypad wiring run or the keypad itself.
• You hear a click but the gate doesn’t start. That click is the board trying to send voltage to the motor. If the motor doesn’t spin, you’re looking at a capacitor or a motor relay, both of which sit inside the operator box.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before you call: make sure the breaker feeding the operator isn’t tripped, look for corrosion at the keypad’s battery terminals if it has a battery, and see if water is getting into the keypad housing. That’s the limit of what we’d want you doing without training. FAAC control boards carry 24 volts on the low side and line voltage on the high side, and the terminals for both are closer together than you’d like if your eyesight’s like mine. One slip with a screwdriver across the wrong two terminals and that board is done.
