AfterElite Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Prosper Owner’s Guide
We repair and replace Elite keypad and intercom parts on gates throughout Prosper, and we keep the most common Elite-compatible components on the truck. A typical keypad or intercom board swap runs $180 to $420 installed, depending on the model and what actually failed. Most of these repairs are done in one trip, and we quote the price before we touch anything.
Most folks in Prosper discover the problem the same way: the keypad lights up but the gate won’t move, or the intercom buzzes but nobody can hear them. Sometimes it’s the keypad membrane that’s cracked from the Texas sun. Sometimes it’s the board inside that gave up after a hard rain. Either way, you’re standing outside your own gate holding groceries, and that’s not how an Elite system is supposed to work.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite makes a few distinct keypad and intercom lines, and they are not interchangeable. The SL-3000 and SL-4000 slide gate operators use a different keypad protocol than the CSW200 and CSW500 swing gate models. The intercom boards vary by generation too: older Elite systems from the mid-2000s use a two-wire analog intercom, while newer units run a four-wire digital board. You can’t swap a newer keypad onto an older board without a protocol adapter, and half the failed repair calls we run in Prosper come from somebody who tried exactly that.
Here’s how to identify what you have: open the keypad housing and look for a sticker on the back of the circuit board. Elite prints the part number there, usually starting with “EL-” followed by four or five digits. The intercom board inside the operator chassis has the same style of label. If the sticker is faded or missing, take a photo of the keypad face and the wire connections behind it and bring it by the shop or text it over. We’ll match it.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Elite OEM keypads are solid, but the price difference can be steep. We stock both OEM and quality aftermarket equivalents for most Elite models, and we’ll tell you straight which one makes sense. For keypads, aftermarket is usually fine. For intercom boards, we lean OEM because the audio quality difference is real and you don’t want to pay for labor twice.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad lights up, gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending a signal, but the receiver board in the operator isn’t getting it. Usually it’s a failed relay on the board, not the keypad itself. A lot of folks replace the keypad first and still have the problem.
- Some buttons work, others don’t. The membrane under the faceplate is cracked or worn through. This is the most common failure we see in Prosper because the UV and heat here are brutal on that thin rubber layer. The fix is a new keypad face or membrane, not a new board.
- Intercom hums or crackles but no voices. That’s the classic analog board failure. Capacitors dry out over time, especially with the temperature swings we get from summer to winter, and the audio circuit goes first. A humming intercom that won’t pass voice is almost always the board.
- Gate opens on its own at random times. This one’s dangerous, and we treat it that way. A failing keypad can send phantom signals, especially after rain. If your gate opens by itself, unplug the keypad or kill power to the operator and call us. That’s a safety issue, not an annoyance.
- Keypad dead after a storm. Lightning and heavy rain are hard on Elite keypads that aren’t weather-sealed correctly. If the keypad went dark after a thunderstorm, it’s usually a fried board or a shorted wire run. We’ll test the whole circuit, not just the keypad.

What drives the range: older Elite models sometimes need a wiring update when the board is replaced, and that adds a little labor. Newer models are usually plug-and-play. DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things: confirm the keypad has power, clear debris off the faceplate, and make sure the wire nuts behind the keypad aren’t loose or corroded. That last one fixes more keypads than people expect. If you’re comfortable with a screwdriver and the power is off, checking the wire connections is reasonable.
What I wouldn’t do yourself: opening the operator chassis to test the intercom board. Those boards carry live voltage, and if you short the wrong pins you’ll turn a $300 repair into a $1,200 one.
