OEM BFT brackets and plates are good steel, but they’re sized for European gate construction. A lot of Prosper gates are heavier American-built steel or iron, which means the stock bracket gets over-stressed. We’ll tell you honestly when an OEM part is right and when a fabricated, heavier-gauge replacement is the smarter fix.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags and scrapes the ground on the latch side. This is almost always a hinge or post issue, not a gate panel problem - the weld holding the hinge plate to the post or the gate has cracked or started to tear. BFT openers can’t compensate for a sagging gate; they just burn themselves out trying.
• The opener bracket wobbles or makes a clunk when the gate reverses. BFT operators push and pull through a steel arm bolted to a bracket on the gate. When that bracket works loose or the weld cracks, each cycle hammers the arm until the bracket finally snaps.
• You can see light through a crack in the gate frame or post weld. That’s a structural failure. North Texas freeze-thaw cycles in Prosper open small cracks fast, and once water gets in the tube, it’s rusting from the inside out.
• The gate stalls partway and the BFT control board shows a fault. People assume the motor is weak. It’s usually not - it’s a binding hinge or a twisted post making the gate fight the operator. The board shuts down to protect itself because the mechanical load is wrong.
